Anyone who knows me will tell you that I hate process. In fact years ago while living in Colorado and learning to ski I wanted to jump from putting on my skis to skiing the moguls. My “patient” friend tried desperately to teach me that I could not just point my skis downhill and go. Rather, it was important for me to learn the appropriate foundational skills in their particular order. I preferred to skip the process and jump into becoming an expert in one day! I thought as long as I arrived at the bottom of the mountain, what did it matter?
Our relationship with the Lord and receiving the good things He has planned for us operates in a similar way. Granting us our desires, is nothing for Him; in fact He wants you to live out His plan because when we do, we reflect a part of Himself that only we can reveal. As becoming a proficient skier there are steps, He leads us to walk in a particular order to prepare within us a strong and sure foundation. And how this happens is strategically designed to meet each of us individually exactly where we are in our lives. Wow, to me that is powerful!
I can’t give you the specifics or the one-two-three steps because God wants a relationship with you and how he works inside you is different from me. Most of us don’t want to have to relate, we just want the things. We are living in a society that is rapid pace, instant gratification and we want things netted out. God does the right thing in the right way so that what he builds will endure.
He refuses to toss us all into the same box and wrap us to look like everyone else. He is the artist and you are His masterpiece. He takes great time and care fine tuning us because truthfully we are a piece of the Master that he presents to the world. You are unique, highly valued with great worth and competence. You have a distinct personality and desire and passion that He planted inside of you so that when you express yourself, you are actually reflecting that part of His image He gave you. That is what it means when scripture says, you become “a praise to His glory,” Ephesians 1:12.
Today, we have opportunity to look around and compare our journey with others or trust His faithfulness and plan. He wants you to know that you are on track, on purpose, and His blueprint for you is still His plan. His father’s heart for those who know Him personally is that we will rest that He has what is best for us in this moment. And in that rest we will have peace that goes beyond our human understanding to enjoy today and genuinely have an attitude of gratefulness in this season.
